About, above: Part 2

Kirsten Bradley

Wednesday 02 April 2008 to Saturday 19 April 2008
Opening Wednesday 02 April 2008 opens Wednesday 2 April, 6-8pm

About, above is a project that considers the plausibility of making a natural system out of cardboard. Drawing on our enduring fascination with the night sky and the space beyond, About, above prods the viewer with gentle questions regarding our emotive reactions to natural systems, and investigates our capacity for wonder in the face of disbelief,

A project in two parts, About, above invites the viewer into a world of lo-fi nature through participatory sculpture and installation. Solar-powered cardboard planetariums in the streets of Sydney, and a camera obscura universe at Firstdraft Gallery both explore ideas of pattern recognition, the heavens, navigation, geocentricism and the peculiar qualities of light, through simplistic simulation of the night sky in Autumn. http://thejunefox.com
