blkmrkt opened in June 2007 as a not-for-profit artist run initiative. The gallery is dedicated to the exhibition of work by contemporary artists.

Blkmrkt has an open door policy and we invite all artists and interested people to visit, look and chat. We exist to act as a catalyst for the development and promotion of ideas and debate through art. A long-term blkmrkt gallery aim is that parallel,integrated activities be launched in the gallery, publications, our website, and other local, national and international art projects, giving the issues and ideas raised by the programme the widest possible dissemination and discussion.
Our goal is to actively seek links between the arts and other critical areas of cultural production; to involve art as a contributing voice in wider intellectual, social, and political debate.
