Nancy Mauro-Flude
Raised in Tasmania, Nancy is a performing artist working with experimental media in fine art and theatre contexts. Her artistic practice revolves around the unusual combinations of bricolage, metaphysics and Linux {opensource] computing. In her research she often pays homage to the late 19th-early 20th century manifestations of the paranormal, political cabaret and the experiential worlds they carry in their wake.

She has been invited to talk, perform, and exhibit at events and venues throughout Europe, South American Australasia such as; Netherlands New Media Art Institute, Imal (Brussesl), FILE electronic art festival (Brazil), ISEA , V2_Institute of Unstable Media, Performance Space, ArtSpace, Planet Art, International Festival of Computer Arts Maribor (Slovenia), Bergen Center for Electronic Arts, Amber Annual International Digital festival of body-process arts, Museum Quartier (Vienna), and the World Wide Web.

She has completed residencies and commissions with several cultural institutions including; STEIM Centre for research & development of instruments & tools for performers in the electronic performance arts, Waag Society/for Old and New Media (Amsterdam), and will be artist-in-residence at both quartier21|MuseumsQuartier (Vienna) and WORM (Rotterdam).

She has lectured and led workshops on topics such as; Custom built interfaces, Linux For Theatre Makers, Bricolage- a design approach for local and emergent technologies, electronic performance tools in the age of the vanity apocalypse, Social Software: fiction, action-at-a-distance & Dolls at several educational institutions including; Goldsmiths College, Slade School of Fine Art, Dartington College of the Arts, Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis, Dance Unlimited (Amsterdam), Art Department at the University of Antioquia (Colombia), Monash University (Melbourne), Sydney University, and Willem de Kooning Academie (Rotterdam).

Receiving numerous commissions, grants and awards for her work, Nancy is a 2007 graduate from Piet Zwart Institute of Media Design under the supervision of Dr Florian Cramer and Dr Matthew Fuller, her Final project paraphernalia electronic performance, and self-crafted hardware & software application (hacked game pads and Pure Data programming environment and wireless HID ’s) which received a performance commission for ‘(re)Actor2: The Second International Conference on Digital Live Art’, Bad Girls, Gadgets and Geurrilla Performance in UK, September 2007, and was featured in TEST _LAB: PLAY ! a selection of the best electronic-art graduation projects of 2007 @ V2_, Institute of Unstable Media.

Currently holding the title of Honorary Researcher in Electronic Media, at the Slade School of Fine Art in London she is a founding member of Moddr_artlab- an international collective of developers and artists making electronic performance tools, and developer of the /etc Eclectic Tech Carnival, the annual women’s hack lab.
